Welcome

Left to right: Drs. William O. Richards, John P. Wikswo Jr. and L. Alan Bradshaw are standing in front of the magnetically shielded room of the Vanderbilt GIST Laboratory. The SQUID biomagnetometer cylinder can be seen inside the shield. Dr. Bradshaw is venting liquid helium at 4 degrees above absolute zero from a pressurized tank. This gas is used to cool the SQUID so that its coils become superconducting, allowing biomagnetic field recordings to be acquired.
