Services

The data and statistical innovation ecosystem of the Vanderbilt Biostatistics Data Coordinating Center is collaboration enabled, technology supported, and milestone driven. With strategic experience and standardized processes to reduce costs and maximize resource utilization, VBDCC can assist you with project and trial design, data collection and curation, analysis and interpretation of results, dissemination of your findings, and other aspects of executing and communicating your work.

VBDCC provides scientific and technological support to clients through its Design & Analysis unit, Data Management unit, and Tool Development unit. Each project includes oversight by a faculty biostatistician and VBDCC project manager to ensure expert collaborative support for rigor, reproducibility, and transparency in all research activities, which may include (but are not limited to) the following:

Grant and Proposal Preparation

  • Protocol development
  • Study design
    • Sample size and power calculation
    • Custom, complex randomization
    • Adaptive designs
    • Platform studies
  • Statistical analysis plan
  • Data management and sharing plan

Study Implementation and Management

  • Institutional review board (IRB) submission facilitation
  • Data collection design
  • REDCap database and interface builds
  • Data quality control and monitoring
  • Real-time enrollment reporting
  • Automation systems design (e.g., Twilio, FedEx)
  • Study website and portal builds (examples: VMAC, ACTIV-6)
  • Coordination with external sites
  • Data and safety monitoring board (DSMB) reporting
  • Harmonization of data from multiple disparate sources
  • Manuscript preparation
  • Data sharing (including to publicly available databases)

Researchers who use the VBDCC are asked to acknowledge its contributions to their success. We advise using this wording template: "Data management services for this study were provided by the Vanderbilt Biostatistics Data Coordinating Center (Nashville, Tennessee)."

We look forward to learning how we can support your research. To initiate discussion of a funded project or grant proposal, please complete our initial intake form. See our list of prompts for guidance.

If funding will not be available for your project, you may pursue biostatistical assistance through attending one of our clinics or obtaining a VICTR voucher (visit the Biostatistics Clinics page for details). See our Introduction to Biostatistics Resources guide for additional options.
