Facilities/Hospitals

The Cardiac Surgery Resident Education Program is uniquely located within three interconnected medical centers on the Vanderbilt University campus. Residents perform clinical rotations within each of these hospitals: the Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC), the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, and the Nashville Veterans Administrative Medical Center (VAMC). Inpatient and outpatient services are also located within each hospital.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center
VUMC is a 1051 bed, comprehensive general hospital for Nashville as well as a major tertiary care center. We serve over 52,000 inpatients each year and attract the majority of our referrals from the central and southeastern United States, as well as many foreign countries. The Vanderbilt Clinic System consists of more than 90 ambulatory clinics in various specialties, which boasts over 2,000,000 visits annually. Well-recognized, research-based medical and nursing schools support VUMC, delivering both routine inpatient care and highly specialized medical and surgical care. We are also home to the region's only Level I Trauma Center and are one of 49 hospitals nationwide to have an NCI Cancer Center designation.
