The objective of this study is to qualitatively examine Pediatric Oncologists’ experiences with families who opposed recommended cancer treatment. It is not known what resources or tactics these providers utilize to handle and navigate these conflicts, or how providers decide whether to bring a case to the attention of the legal system. In order to develop evidence-based interventions and resources for Pediatric Oncologists and patients/families, we must first understand the scope and impact of cases involving treatment refusal, non-adherence, and abandonment (TRNA). In this study, we are conducting semi-structured interviews with Pediatric Oncologists to explore their perspectives and attitudes regarding TRNA cases, their approaches to mitigating these conflicts, and resources used or needed in managing these cases.
