CLINICAL PRACTICE GUIDELINES (FULL LIST)
CENTRAL LINE WITH FEVER (CPG)
Catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSIs) occur when intravascular devices become infected with bacteria. CRBSIs are prevalent, can cause morbidity and mortality, and increase hospital cost and length of stay. The risk of bloodstream infection varies according to the intravascular device, insertion site, frequency with which the catheter is accessed, duration of catheter placement, and characteristics of the patient. Management of catheter-related bloodstream infections varies by pathogen type, catheter type, severity of illness, and other patient characteristics.
This clinical practice guideline was developed in order to standardize management of patients with a central line and fever as well as those with confirmed CRBSI, based on current evidence and national clinical guidelines.
