This study utilizes retrieval practice to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of two key retrieval practice features: feedback and spacing. We want to know whether providing feedback and spacing words in a certain way help children who are deaf and hard of hearing learn words faster. Participants will be taught novel words for unfamiliar objects under two conditions to determine their effectiveness. This study focuses on deaf or hard-of-hearing children aged 5 to 8 years old using spoken English. Participants will complete speech and language evaluation to determine their eligibility and participate in word learning sessions three times per week. These appointments can take place at the child's school, home, a community location (e.g. library) or in our research lab at Vanderbilt.
