Natalie Paul is a Research Nurse Specialist. She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2009 with a concentration in Biological Psychology at New College of Florida in Sarasota, Florida. After completing her bachelor’s degree, Natalie was awarded a two year post-baccalaureate research fellowship at the Duke-UNC Brain Imaging and Analysis Center in Functional Neuroimaging in Durham, North Carolina. Following her fellowship, Natalie started pursuing her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) at Vanderbilt University in August 2013. She completed the Registered Nurse curriculum in July 2014, and has had an active Registered Nurse license in the state of Tennessee since September 2014. She will graduate with her MSN in August 2016 with the Family Nurse Practitioner specialty. As a Research Nurse Specialist, Natalie annotates provider notes in electronic health records to assist in the development of Natural Language Processing (NLP) technology to identify veterans at risk of various health conditions. She also provides clinical expertise to aid in the development of schemas for NLP technology. Before coming to the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Natalie conducted research in oncology, neurology, psychiatry, child development, cognitive science, and neuroscience.
