Sunil Kripalani, MD, MSc, SFHM, FACP

Sunil Kripalani, MD, MSc, SFHM, FACP, is Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He directs the Center for Health Services Research and Center for Clinical Quality and Implementation Research, which support a broad portfolio of research and training programs that seek to improve health care delivery and health outcomes by optimizing quality, value, equity, and patient-centered care.

Dr. Kripalani’s research interests include health communication, medication safety, care transitions, social determinants of health, implementation of evidence-based practice, and de-implementation of low-value care. He is Principal Investigator of the Vanderbilt Scholars in T4 Translational Research (V-STTaR) program, a faculty career development program in implementation research, funded by NIH/NHLBI. He also serves as a Co-Investigator for the Vanderbilt CTSA Learning Health System platform, leads the Implementation Core of an NIH-funded Precision Medicine & Health Disparities Collaborative, and serves as Vanderbilt site-PI of the ADAPTABLE aspirin pragmatic clinical trial. He is Chair of the AHRQ Health Care Effectiveness and Outcomes Research study section and serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Hospital Medicine. He previously founded and served as Chief of the Section of Hospital Medicine at Vanderbilt and Co-Director of the Center for Effective Health Communication.

Dr. Kripalani graduated from Rice University, received his MD from Baylor College of Medicine, and trained in Internal Medicine at Emory University, where he also completed a Hospital Medicine Fellowship and a Master of Science in Clinical Research. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute.
