Amanda Mixon, MD, MSPH

Amanda S. Mixon, MD, MS, MSPH, FHM is a board certified internist and Assistant Professor in the Section of Hospital Medicine at Vanderbilt University and a research scientist at the VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Earlham College with a BA in chemistry and earned a MS in microbiology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Mixon received her MD from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. After completing her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, she finished the VA Quality Scholars Program, a fellowship in quality improvement and earned her MSPH in outcomes research methods. In her current role, Dr. Mixon is a hospitalist and conducts federally-funded health services research, focusing on the impact of medication management on patient outcomes. She has been scientifically productive, now with over 30 publications and 3 under review. She has expertise in quality improvement, implementation science, and have mentored healthcare providers in quality improvement projects. Moreover, her content area focuses on medication management/reconciliation and care transitions.
