Xiaoyan Zhan, Ph.D.

Xiaoyan earned her BS and MS degrees in genetics from Zhejiang University. After working at China National Rice Research Institute for several years, she received the Rockefeller Foundation Scholarship with a joint PhD program at Zhejiang University and Yale University, and obtained PhD degree in molecular biology. With interest in public health and infectious diseases, Xiaoyan did her postdoctoral training at UC Berkeley and then worked at St. Jude Children’s Hospital, where she focused on mechanisms of virus invasion of humans, prevention of viral infections, and development of new generations of vaccines. She has extensive experience working on vaccines that prevent infections of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), human parainfluenza viruses (hPIVs), and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). During her research career, Xiaoyan has over forty publications, including twelve as a leading author.
