  • After successfully completing the sonographic physics courses, you will be eligible to apply for and take the Sonographic Principles and Instrumentation Exam. After passing this exam, you will be eligible to take 2 additional ARDMS board exams during the last 60 days of your program: Abdomen and OB/GYN.

  • Employment for entry-level sonographers is typically based on credentials from ARDMS rather than type of degree or certificate. 

  • Depending on the region, the job market for sonographers can fluctuate. Some areas are competitive, and graduates may need to relocate. However, acquiring sonography credentials can open new job opportunities. Sonographers have options of working at a hospital, an outpatient clinic, and/or a doctor’s office.

  • Sonographers have many career opportunities in hospitals and clinics. There are also options for specialized care such as vascular, pediatrics, or obstetrics. After gaining experience, sonographers may choose to travel and take contract jobs all over the country. There are opportunities in management, research, and education as well.
