The Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) Subcommittee on Masters and Undergraduate Degrees in Global Health (SMUDGH) has elected Marie Martin, Ph.D., M.Ed., assistant professor of Health Policy and associate director for Education and Training for VIGH to serve a 2-year term on the committee, which focuses on helping universities develop high-quality programs in global health for both undergraduate and graduate students.
Vanderbilt University has been a member institution of CUGH since 2005, and Dr. Martin's leadership role will help strengthen the committee's work to advance academic global health programs worldwide. SMUDGH members represent a diverse set of institutions and backgrounds and work to pave the future of global health education and provide students with useful resources.
CUGH promotes mutually beneficial partnerships amongst academia and other sectors in resource-rich and resource-poor countries to develop human capital and strengthen institutional capacity. They engage and support university-based global health programs and advocate for global health issues on an international, national and local level.
The subcommittee is co-chaired by Kathryn Jacobsen, M.P.H., Ph.D., a professor specializing in global health and epidemiology at George Mason University, and Caryl Waggett, Ph.D., a professor in global and environmental health at Allegheny College. The committee members will collaborate to analyze trends and advancements in curricula design and innovate experiential learning techniques for undergraduate, masters, and doctoral global health programs.
