FACULTY SEARCH: The Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health (VIGH) seeks faculty member at Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor with a primary research focus on health challenges in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). The primary role will be in research and program development, but teaching skills are also important. The successful candidates will mentor graduate students and post-doctoral and clinical research fellows, and if appropriate, junior faculty members. Over the past 20 years, Vanderbilt has been the U.S. medical school with the highest rate of growth in NIH funding, ranking 10th in 2014. VIGH was established in July 2005 with the recruitment of its director, Sten Vermund, who also serves as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Global Health. The 11 core faculty members who carry their grants through the Institute have revenues of about $22 million per year.
The mission and activities of the Institute are found at vumc.org/global-health/about-us. We seek to create innovative “wrap-around” community and economic development programs in our project locations, with the goal of implementing a holistic, community-wide approach to improvement of health and well-being of people around the world, especially in LMIC and foreign-born persons in the U.S. In this work, we engage faculty from many schools at Vanderbilt (e.g., Medicine, Nursing, Education, Arts and Science, Engineering, and Management) and collaborating universities and ministries of health. We seek faculty in any of these four areas of expertise applied to challenges in LMIC:
• Biomedical informatics
• Behavioral sciences
• Implementation science and quality improvement
• Medical economics and decision analysis modeling
