The Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health (VIGH), Hanoi Medical University (HMU), and the Vietnam National Cancer Institute (VNCI) have partnered on a new training program from the Fogarty International Center of the National Institutes of Health. The Vanderbilt-Vietnam Genetic Epidemiology Training Program (V2- GENE) is an initiative to train scholars in the genetic epidemiology of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs).
The program's primary goal is to foster the development of a robust team of researchers and educators. This team, equipped with the necessary training and expertise, will spearhead genetic epidemiology research of NCDs across the life course in Vietnam. Notably, the program also aims to enhance the engagement of US-based researchers in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), thereby extending the global reach of genetic epidemiology research.
The anticipated impacts of this program are far-reaching and promising. They include establishing a robust training infrastructure within Vietnam, expanding the workforce, developing future leaders in genetic epidemiology research, and engaging U.S. researchers in global health research.
