The nation’s No. 2 public health official will visit Vanderbilt University Medical Center on Feb. 7 to deliver a guest lecture during a visit to Nashville.
Eric Hargan, the deputy secretary of Department of Health & Human Services will speak as part of the Ike Robinson Lecture Series in Light Hall 208 from 12-1 p.m. after meeting with leaders of the hospital and School of Medicine.
The Department of Health Policy and School of Medicine are co-sponsoring the event.
Hargan has been in the No. 2 role since October 2017, and is the chief operating officer of the largest department in the federal government. He oversees the $1.3 trillion budget and 80,000 federal employees in the department. He also oversees the department’s policy and strategy development. He earned a juris doctorate from Columbia University and bachelor’s degree from Harvard University.
Hargan’s visit will include a lecture expected to cover the regulatory outlook for the health care industry in 2020 and beyond. Following the talk, Hargan will participate in a moderated Q&A led by Melinda Buntin, Mike Curb Professor of Health Policy and Chair of the Department of Health Policy.
