We'd like to formally welcome our newest member of the Department, Assistant Professor Laura Keohane! We've developed the "Five Questions" interview to help us get to know Laura and the rest of our new incoming faculty members.
Five Questions with Laura Keohane
Department: What drew you to the Department of Health Policy at Vanderbilt?
Laura: It’s an exciting time to join the department because it’s growing so rapidly. I am impressed by the focus on providing high-impact health policy research and the amazing collaboration opportunities at Vanderbilt and in the Nashville community.
D: What’s been your biggest accomplishment this year?
L: I really enjoyed my dissertation defense at Brown this summer. It was a chance to share my research on how Medicare beneficiaries transition to being dually enrolled in Medicaid. And there was a great celebration when I passed!
D: Have you had time to check out Nashville yet?
L: My list of places to check out in Nashville is growing longer every day. I’ve already found plenty of good coffee, good music, and – something that’s hard to get in the Northeast – good hush puppies.
D: Who inspires you?
L: From elementary school through graduate school, I’ve had incredible teachers and mentors who were dedicated to providing an excellent education. Many of my family members and friends have devoted their careers to teaching. I’m inspired by their commitment to students and hope to follow their example.
D: What are you working on right now?
L: One of my current projects examines how Medicare Advantage members respond to changes in cost-sharing requirements for skilled nursing facility services. This work has important implications for how to design insurance benefits for post-acute care.
We're so glad to have you here, Laura! Please stop by 2525 West End Ave Suite 1200 to say hello to her.
