Become a Vanderbilt Medical Assistant

VUMC Medical Assistants are vital to our healthcare team which primarily supports Vanderbilt Health Clinics and Children’s Hospital Outpatient Clinics (CHOC). 

Qualifications to become a VUMC Medical Assistant
• Current Certified Medical Assistant having completed a Medical Assistant Program

• Completed a Medical Assistant Program but not yet Certified
  Certification is required from one of the VUMC-accepted certifying bodies within 120 days of hire

• Have not Completed a Medical Assistant Program nor yet Certified, but have a minimum of 12 months of Patient Care Experience
  New hires may be eligible to sit for a Medical Assistant Certification Exam with one of the VUMC-accepted certifying bodies

• American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
• American Medical Technologists (AMT)
• National Association of Health Professionals (NAHP)
• National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
• National Healthcare Association (NHA)
