Become a Vanderbilt Medical Assistant

VUMC Medical Assistants are vital to our health care team and primarily support Vanderbilt Health Clinics and Children’s Hospital Outpatient Clinics (CHOC). 

Qualifications to become a VUMC Medical Assistant
Current Certified Medical Assistant having completed a Medical Assistant Program

Completed a Medical Assistant Program but not yet certified
  Certification is required from one of the VUMC-accepted certifying bodies within 120 days of hire.

Have not completed a Medical Assistant Program nor yet certified, but have a minimum of 12 months of patient care experience
  New hires may be eligible to sit for a Medical Assistant Certification Exam with one of the VUMC-accepted certifying bodies.

• American Medical Technologists (AMT)
• National Association of Health Professionals (NAHP)
• National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
• National Healthcare Association (NHA)
