Research Faculty Position in Orthopaedic Surgery (Open Recruitment)
Applicant is sought for full time, research faculty position in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Candidate should have demonstrated expertise in clinical research in the field of musculoskeletal health, pain, or behavioral medicine. Candidates with a doctoral degree in rehabilitation science, epidemiology, health services research, clinical psychology or a related field will be considered and post-doctoral research experience is preferred. Candidates with a record of publishing impactful original research and a high potential for extramural funding will be considered for the position of Assistant Professor. More experienced applicants with a demonstrated record of maintaining extramural funding will be considered for rank of Associate Professor or Professor.

Bridge Year Program
The Center for Musculoskeletal Research Bridge Year Program is an excellent paid clinical experience. It’s perfect for those interested in pursuing an interactive, patient-oriented gap year for 1 year before medical school matriculation. Individuals in the program learn about clinical research by independently recruiting participants from an orthopedic spine and/or trauma clinic, completing follow-up data collection with patients over the phone and in-person, and coordinating patient care while participating in a dynamic and collaborative research group. This unique opportunity allows individuals to develop strong interpersonal skills with patients and providers. The program also provides a solid foundation of the research process, especially the intricacies of navigating clinic workflows to achieve high-quality data collection and patient care. We are looking for highly energetic individuals passionate about clinical research and patient care. Applicants must demonstrate excellent communication skills, an independent work ethic, and strong attention to detail. The program offers positions in Nashville, TN.

Post-Doctoral Positions
Post-doctoral positions in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and the Center for Musculoskeletal Research at Vanderbilt University Medical Center are available for individuals with an interest in musculoskeletal research. Individuals will have an opportunity to independently direct and manage research activities. This will include overseeing a high-level research team, developing and submitting grant proposals, participating in data management activities, analyzing data, and generating manuscripts for peer-review publication.
Applicants with a background in rehabilitation science, behavioral medicine, public health, epidemiology, clinical-translational, and/or health services research are preferred. Successful applicants will have experience in study design, the conduct of randomized trials, working as part of a team, excellent communication skills, and strong quantitative skills including proficiency with a statistical analysis package (STATA, SPSS, R, etc.). Fellows must have completed a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline. This is a full-time position. Salary is based on NIH postdoctoral trainee stipend levels.

Medical Student Summer Research Program
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery has a medical student summer research program for students between the first and second year of second and third year of medical school. This 8-week program will allow medical students to conduct clinical, basic, or translational research in the Department under the direction of an established mentor. In addition to working on a research project, students will observe clinical patient care and attend weekly seminars on research skills and/or orthopaedic hands-on skills. At the conclusion of the summer, each student will present a brief summary of his/her work at a scientific symposium.
