Be a part of a community of other new graduate nurses that start when you start and continue to have the opportunity to touch base with your peers and nurse residency leaders. Opportunities for mentorship, coaching, reflection, and collaboration exist beyond your department.
ORIENTATION
Structured, supportive onboarding and orientation, including central and track-specific orientation; and population-specific education by experienced preceptors and VUMC experts.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Professional development activities are offered throughout the first year, including delegation, time management, resiliency, patient engagement, cultural competency, ethical decision-making, evidence-based practice, and quality initiatives.
BEYOND THE FIRST YEAR
In your first year, you'll engage in a blend of customized live, in-person workshops and our monthly on-demand Insights & Interactions series. Our aim is to enhance your knowledge and awareness of available resources while fostering a sense of community and support. As you reflect on and share your experiences, you'll find joy in your transition into professional practice.

VUMC also offers education assistance:
- Loan repayment: VUMC will contribute $500 monthly towards student loans for those in good standing. Eligible nurses can participate in this program for four years. This means a nurse can reduce their student loan debt by up to $24,000 while enrolled.
