Role Model Bryce B.

pic My name is Bryce B., MSN, MBA, RN, TNCC. I've been at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) since 2022.
I work at VUH (Vanderbilt University Hospital) as an RN in the Adult Emergency Department.

I chose to focus on physical wellness because being a nurse can be incredibly gratifying, yet stressful at times.

One small measure I take at work is to use the stairs. This is an easy way to get in a few more steps and raise my heart rate. On my days off, I run. I am NOT fast but getting outside consistently makes me feel great. Now I consistently run 3-4 days a week and am training for a marathon! I have a long way to go but it feels great to have a goal.

One barrier I must overcome is that I am tired after a 12-hour shift! I enforce a running routine and, incidentally, I feel like I have more energy.

VUMC has the tools to help me achieve my goal. After seeing the Health Plus challenges, I was inspired to get as many steps as possible.  Another good resource I find helpful is listening to podcasts while I run. I feel like I am not only fueling my body, but also my mind.

Because of my journey to physical wellness, I have encouraged my coworkers to take the stairs and get out and run! You do not have to be fast; you just have to move forward. Nashville has several running clubs that are positive and encouraging for all levels of experience.

Regardless of your current fitness level, I encourage all to get outside and move! If you run, then you are a runner - own it!
