Role Model Retha P.
My name is Retha P., MSN, RN. I've been at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) since 2019. | ||
I currently work at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital as a Nurse in Employee Health. I chose to focus on physical wellness because I wanted to control and lower my blood glucose levels. I started marching along with the staff who came in for respirator fit testing, and I started parking further away from the building. I then enrolled in the step challenges offered to VUMC employees as part of Go for The Gold. I'm now closer to my goal than I was a year ago. In order to overcome my inactivity, I needed a reminder to get up and move since I'm working at a desk most of the time. Instead of focusing on my inactivity, I now focus on how many steps I am obtaining. VUMC has the tools to help me achieve my goal such as the Health Plus Wellness Actions. Another good resource I found helpful was flower gardening, which supports both my spiritual and physical well-being. As a result of my journey to physical wellness, I have encouraged my coworkers to take advantage of these resources and start their own physical wellness journey. We now work on physical wellness together by participating in the current step challenge. Good Luck on your journey! |
