My journey as a nurse practitioner started at Planned Parenthood in 2000 providing routine gynecologic care. I came to VUMC in September of 2004 as a nurse practitioner in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology. My typical day involves caring for women at high-risk for gynecologic cancers as well as those who have been diagnosed with gynecologic cancers. I help to implement treatment plans and monitor long-term routine surveillance for these individuals. Our patients can be challenging medically, but I am continuously inspired and motivated by them.
I have been truly fortunate to work in a department alongside colleagues and partners who have valued professional growth. Through conferences as well as certification programs, I have been able to focus my career on my area of interest. One of the most rewarding parts of my career has been contributing to the development of a resident physician colposcopy curriculum and participating in a multidisciplinary weekly conference regarding the management of cervical pre-invasive disease. As an attending in the colposcopy clinic, I have enjoyed training resident physicians and faculty APPs seeking advanced privileges.
I grew up in Chattanooga, TN but have called Nashville home for most of my adult life. My husband and I have been married for 26 years, and we have two daughters who attend the University of Vermont and Auburn University. I love an early morning run, boot camp or yoga class. I also love spending time with extended family, some of which live in Nashville. I consider myself lucky to have many great friendships from work and my community. These relationships have been a meaningful part of my journey as a nurse practitioner.
