Heather Sevcik, CNM, MSN

My name is Heather Sevcik, I'm a certified nurse-midwife and the current clinical director at Vanderbilt Birth Center. Vanderbilt Birth Center is a freestanding, nationally accredited birth facility that promotes physiologic, patient-centered care to individuals & families. I've been in the birth world for 17 years and a certified nurse-midwife for 12 years. I oversee clinical operations at Vanderbilt Birth Center and, together with an incredible team, care for individuals & families as they walk through pregnancy, birth, & postpartum. I also provide routine gynecologic care, including annual exams, family planning & birth control, STI testing, and care for common gynecologic complaints.

Working as a certified nurse-midwife, the strength of women and the magic of childbirth never cease to amaze me. I feel honored to walk alongside our patients as they journey through life's most precious and challenging moments. As clinical director, I am challenged daily by unique patient scenarios or circumstances that require leadership input and care planning. We have a growing and diverse patient population at the birth center and are learning how to better wrap around and support everyone with internal and external resources.

As clinical director, I love "midwifing" my team, especially APPs new to practice or new to the birth center. Every day, I support collaboration, quality improvement, teamwork, creative/flexible thinking, and positive culture – and this translates to safe, satisfying outcomes for the individuals & families we serve, as well as workforce retention and fulfillment.

Outside of work, I enjoy being in nature. My family stewards a small farm and I joke that one of my hands can catch the babies while the other digs the carrots. When not tending gardens, I chase after my 5-year-old twins and sometimes steal away for a hike.
