Fellowships - Urogynecology Program Curriculum

Curriculum

 

Clinical Training

Fellows complete 18 months of focused urogynecologic surgery training throughout the 3 year program and oversee the Urogynecology service at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Additional rotations in Urology (each of the 3 years), Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (first year) and Colorectal Surgery (second year) are also embedded in the curriculum. Fellows manage a weekly clinic which includes consults, postoperative follow up, and procedures.


Research Training

Fellows complete Biostatistics I in the fall of their second year and have the option to complete Biostatistics II in the spring of their second year.

Research block are 3 months with one block in the first and third years of fellowship and two blocks in the second year.


Conference Schedules

All fellows are encouraged to attend both AUGS (fall) and SGC (spring) national conferences annually.

Funding is available for regional anatomy and skills training courses.

  • Urogyncecology and Reconstructive Urology joint didactics and cadaver labs: Wednesday mornings
  • ObGyn Grand Round, MMI and resident didactics: Friday mornings
  • Urogynecology pre-operative conference: Friday mornings

Benefits

Fellows  receive three weeks of paid vacation and $4,000 of CME funding per year. Stipends and detailed benefits for house staff are available on the Vanderbilt Graduate Medical Education Web site.

Fellows are provided a shared office space and a laptop computer for clinical work, as well as the option to obtain a work phone.


Call

Fellows take call one of every three weeks for the Urogynecology service. Call is home based, and inpatient and emergency consults are seen at the main Vanderbilt University Medical Center. There is no benign gynecology call.
