Overview
Vanderbilt Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology believes an understanding of and contribution to the healthcare needs of women around the world is paramount. Through our international partnerships and collaborations our residents have opportunities to become dedicated and innovative drivers of global women’s health. Through service, education, and research, our Global Health rotation is designed to help our residents play a significant role in reducing the health disparities affecting women in low and middle-income countries as well as in underserved communities domestically.
Mission
Recognizing the importance of women’s health to global progress, the mission of the Global Women's Health (GWH) Section of Vanderbilt University Medical Center's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is to develop sustainable relationships with our global partners in an effort to improve access to quality health care for women. These partnerships will allow for the engagement of our residents, fellows and faculty as well as our greater VUMC community. We strive to continue the conversation regarding global women’s health while working on innovative and collaborative methods of health care research, education and delivery.
Educational Goals
The Global Women's Health Section seeks to establish bidirectional and mutually beneficial partnerships that allow us to promote educational experiences leading to the improvement in the care of women around the world. Our training focuses include international electives for Vanderbilt OB/GYN residents and offering training for the local medical staff. We also offer participation in a multidisciplinary certificate program, Vanderbilt Collaborative for Global Health Equity, designed to train physicians across specialties to become leaders in global health and issues specific to providing care diverse and underserved communities around the world.
