Biography

Susan Lewis CNM, MSN has been practicing as a Nurse Midwife for more than 20 years and is a faculty member in the Vanderbilt Department of Ob-Gyn. In addition to being a certified nurse-midwife, her interests lie in health promotion and disease prevention. She completed her training in 2013 at the Ayurvedic institute in (U.S. and Pune, India). She is a national board certified ayurvedic practitioner (CAP) through NAMA. She also completed the health and wellness coach program at the Vanderbilt Center for Integrative Health in 2019 and is national board-certified in health and wellness coaching (NB-HWC).

Research Information

Susan Lewis served as principal investigator for the "Development of a Nationally Scalable Model of Group Prenatal Care to Improve Birth Outcomes" at Vanderbilt from 2015-2018. During this time, her research involved birth outcomes in women receiving group prenatal care.

As a part of a national initiative lead by the American College of Nurse Midwives, she co-facilitated the Reducing Primary Cesarean project aimed at reducing cesarean rates in low-risk nulliparous pregnancies at Vanderbilt (2017-2021). Her research explores cesarean rates in nulliparous, term, singleton, vertex (NTSV) pregnancies.
