Honoring the Foundation of Oral Surgery at Vanderbilt
David Hall enjoyed a long and productive career as the founding Chairman and Professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Vanderbilt University.
A pioneer in the field of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Hall was an ardent advocate for Graduate Medical Education and established one of the most respected training programs in the country. During this time, 48 residents completed the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery program at Vanderbilt University.
In 1995, residents and colleagues of H. David Hall, DMD, MD, honored his legacy by establishing the H. David Hall Scholarship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to provide for future generations of Oral Surgery residents. Since 2008, the scholarship has provided invaluable financial support to help offset medical school tuition expense for the OMS-MD resident.
Dr. Hall was passionate about the concept of "dual degree" training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, and it is only fitting that his legacy is living through support provided to OMS-MD residents by the H. David Hall Scholarship. Through the scholarship, his legacy endures in the careers of more than 55 former residents he trained, and will continue to make a positive impact on resident education for generations to come.
Tragically, Dr. Hall passed away in an accident in 2005. He is survived by his loving wife Kay, who remains committed to the program.
Paving the Way for Future Generations of Oral Surgeons
The scholarship was designed to benefit Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residents participating in the six-year training program, which includes three years at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. This unique program offers our residents a complete and high-quality medical education.
For more than 15 years, the H. David Hall Scholarship has provided vital financial support to offset the cost of medical education for residents on the OMS-MD track. It also funds the Annual H. David Hall Lectureship, and helps to ensure our residents have the opportunity to present research papers and posters at the annual meetings of the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS).
