Dr. Narasimhamurthy's research focuses on the morphology of breast diseases and diagnostic aspects of breast pathology. Specific areas of interest include unraveling the molecular basis and clinical significance of solid papillary carcinoma with neuroendocrine differentiation; predictive factors for false negative results during intra-operative cytology touch preparation in the evaluation of sentinel-node biopsy in clinically node-negative breast cancer patients following neoadjuvant therapy. He also has an interest in the morphology of hereditary breast cancer syndromes.

In addition, Dr. Narasimhamurthy is passionate about global health and aims to enhance access to high-quality diagnostic services in low and middle-income countries. He is currently involved in the validation and effectiveness of the Point of Care diagnostic kit (smartphone-based platform for fine-needle aspirate (FNA) sample processing, pathology interpretation, and biomarker analysis (EpiView-D4) compared to the standard of care in improving access to diagnostic services in low- and middle-income countries. The purpose is to standardize the portability and accuracy of the EpiView-D4 to differentiate cancer from non-cancer, and its readiness to add a multiplexed immunohistochemistry (IHC)-4 panel of biomarkers (ER, PR, HER2, and Ki-67 testing) to characterize breast cancer subtypes.
