VUMC’s Office of Health Equity recently selected the Population Health Pharmacy Services team for a 2022-23 Health Equity Innovation Award. Mackenzie Farrar, clinical pharmacist and a fluent Spanish speaker, joined the team last fall and immediately noticed unique challenges for patients with Limited English Proficiency (LEP). Based on Farrar's desire to improve the experience for this population, Erin Neal, PharmD, MMHC, led the team in submitting a proposal to ‘‘Improve Medication Access and Experience for Patients with LEP Using a Collaborative Model for Improvement."
The $10,000 grant will support the team over the next year to raise awareness of health equity and medication use, identify best practices for supporting LEP patients and begin small test of change to improve our practice.
