X-Ray Safety Training

X-Ray safety training is required annually for all individuals who operate x-ray machines and/or are routinely exposed to x-rays during work. Training is available online in the VUMC Learning Exchange and in the Vanderbilt University Oracle System.

Staff Present During Clinical X-Ray Procedures

  • If you are present in the room with an x-ray machine while it is on, even if you are not the operator, you will need to complete the Clinical X-Ray Safety Course, available in the VUMC Learning Exchange.

Staff Who Operate Clinical X-RAY Machines: 

  • If you operate any kind of clinical x-ray machine, you must complete the Clinical X-Ray Safety Course annually.
  • Training is provided in the VUMC Learning Exchange to everyone except VUMC SOM faculty, who receive this training online through the Faculty Orientation and Training Office learning management system.

Staff Who Operate Clinical FLUOROSCOPY Machines: 

  • If you operate fluoroscopic x-ray equipment, you must complete the Radiation Safety During Fluoroscopy Course annually. The Clinical X-Ray Safety Course is a prerequisite for this course, and must have been completed within the last year.
  • Training is provided in the VUMC Learning Exchange to everyone except VUMC SOM faculty, who receive this training online through the Faculty Orientation and Training Office learning management system.

Analytical X-Ray Operator Safety Training Course

  • Training is available online in the VUMC Learning Exchange and in the Vanderbilt University Oracle System. Send an email to radsafety@vumc.org to request this assignment.
  • Note: Analytical X-Ray Machine Operators must use this form to record required quarterly interlock test results.

Polaris SC-500 X-Ray Irradiator Operator Safety Training Course

  • If you operate the Polaris X-Ray Irradiator, you must complete the X-ray Irradiator Safety Training for the Polaris SC-500 course annually.
  • Training is available online in the VUMC Learning Exchange and in the Vanderbilt University Oracle System. Send an email to radsafety@vumc.org regarding any questions about enrollment.
