Environmental Protection (RCRA & DOT) Awareness Training
Required by: Environmental Protection Agency & Department of Transportation
Frequency: Initial
Target Audience: All individuals who work with hazardous chemicals
Class Description: This class describes the individual's and the University's responsibilities for complying with environmental protection standards and transportation of hazardous materials. The EPA Resource Conservation & Recovery Act (RCRA) is described and acceptable methods for hazardous waste disposal are discussed.
Class Length: Approximately one hour.

Universal Waste Management Training
Required by: The EPA Standards for Universal Waste Management - 40 CFR 273
Frequency: Initial
Target Audience: All employees who handle or have responsibility for managing universal waste (waste in the form of used batteries, pesticides, mercury-containing equipment and mercury-containing bulbs).
Class Description: Training must describe proper handling and emergency procedures appropriate to the type(s) of universal waste handled at Vanderbilt facilities.
Class Length: Approximately 30 minutes

Spill Prevention, Control & Countermeasures (SPCC) Training
Required by: EPA Oil Pollution Prevention Act - 40 CFR 112
Frequency: Initial and annual refresher training
Target Audience: All oil-handling personnel.
Class Description: Training must include the Vanderbilt SPCC Plans, a complete list of areas where oil or fuel are stored, and how to respond in the event of a leak or spill to prevent oil or fuel from entering a waterway, including storm drains.
Class Length: Approximately 30 minutes
