From 1972 to Present
The Annual H. William Scott, Jr. Society Lecture in Surgical History
The H. William Scott, Jr. Scott Society was formed in 1972 by his former residents to honor Dr. Scott as well as recognize those who have trained at Vanderbilt and embrace his tradition of excellence.
H. William Scott, Jr., MD came to Nashville in 1952 as Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgery at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. At the time he was the youngest chair of surgery in the country. By the time of his retirement his leadership had spanned 30 years, a feat few have matched.
