Research Assistant

Essence Leslie graduated from Case Western Reserve University where she double majored in psychology and cognitive science and minored in Spanish. Essence was an NIH Diversity Supplement recipient, where she was supported as a research assistant at the Cleveland Clinic Center for Neurological Restoration. At the Cleveland Clinic, she researched patients' understandings of invasiveness and risk in the context of neurosurgical decision making regarding neuromodulatory devices such as Deep-Brain-Stimulation (DBS) and MRI Guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS). Essence is currently interested in understanding the relationship between emotion regulation and the neural basis of symptom severity in schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, and if certain emotion regulation based interventions will have an impact on symptom presentation.
