D. Lee Gorden, MD, FACS
Dr. D. Lee Gorden's clinical interests include hepatobiliary and gastrointestinal surgery, and liver transplantation. He completed a Surgical Fellowship in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery and liver transplantation at the University of Toronto in Canada prior to coming to Vanderbilt. His specific clinical and research interests: liver malignancies including colon and rectal cancer metastases to the liver and primary hepatocellular carcinoma.

Other Responsibilities
Dr. Gorden has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright Scholars award to pursue research and clinical activities at the Paul Brousse Hospital in Paris, France working with Professor Henri Bismuth and colleagues during the year 2009. He has also worked extensively as a surgeon with the International Surgical Team in Guatemala, and also in the rural Andes of Ecuador. Dr. Gorden is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
In addition to his clinical activities, Dr. Gorden is associate program director for Vanderbilt’s fellowship in transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery. He is a member of numerous professional societies including, Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society, the Society of University Surgeons, Association for Academic Surgeons, American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), the American Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, and the Southeastern Surgical Congress.
Research Information
Dr. Gorden's research has been supported by extramural National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding including a U01 award from NCI and NIH K08 and R03 awards from NIDDK Additional grant support has come from the NIH digestive disease research center at Vanderbilt as well as the Discovery program at Vanderbilt and the Vanderbilt Transplant Center. Dr. Gorden’s lab pursued basic and clinical research on nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and tumor / stromal interactions in metastatic and primary tumors of the liver.
