Dr. McChesney joined our surgical faculty in the Division of General Surgery and Colon and Rectal Surgery after completing her residency at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans,  LA, and a fellowship at the University of Louisville Medical School, Louisville, KY.  The focus of her clinical practice includes colon and rectal cancer surgery, surgical endoscopy, pelvic prolapse, robotic surgery modalities and techniques, and inflammatory bowel disease. 

Research

Dr. McChesney’s research interests include ongoing developments in radical pelvic surgery and  promotion of colorectal cancer treatment options and trends. This direction of interest followed her through her fellowship at Ochsner Clinic Foundation, New Orleans, LA in Colon and Rectal Surgery Research.  Her most recent publications in peer reviewed journals include:  Modified Frailty Index Predicts Postoperative Outcomes in Patients Undergoing Radical Pelvic Surgery, The American Surgeon; CDCP1 Enhances Wnt Signaling in Colorectal Cancer Promoting Nuclear Localization of B-cantenin and E-cadherin, Oncogene; and Current US Preoperative Bowel Preparation Trends:  a 2018 Survey of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons Members, Surgical Infections.

Memberships, Awards and Honors

Dr. McChesney is a certified member of the American Board of Surgery, General Surgery and  the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. Additionally, she holds membership in The American College of Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract and Central Surgical Association. She is the recipient of the Excellence in Surgical Education Award, the Charles Keller, Jr Surgical Career Award, and the Edward T. Krementz Basic Science Research Award, all from the Tulane University School of Medicine Department of Surgery, New Orleans, LA.

Education

Dr. McChesney received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison WI. She earned her MD from Rush Medical College, Chicago, IL, and completed a residency at Tulane University Medical Center, New Orleans, LA.  She completed a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery Research at Ochsner Clinic Foundation, New Orleans LA, and a further fellowship from the University of Louisville Medical School, Louisville, KY.
