Joseph Broucek, MD
Dr. Broucek joined our surgical faculty in the Vanderbilt Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery. He previously held the position of Housestaff Surgeon at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. He also previously served as Administrative Chief Resident at Rush University Medical Center and The Cook County Hospital, Chicago, IL.
Dr. Broucek’s clinical areas of interest include gastroesophageal reflux disease, esophageal motility disorders, obesity and metabolism, hiatal and paraesophageal hernias, robotic surgery, benign diseases of the stomach/duodenum, benign diseases of the esophagus, and abdominal wall reconstruction.
Dr. Broucek is certified by the American Board of Surgery. He received the Aesculapius Award for resident educator of the year from Rush Medical College and first place in the Rush Surgical Sciences Research Competition. While a resident at Rush University Medical Center and The Cook County Hospital, he was a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Dr. Broucek is a member of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES).
Research
Dr. Broucek has formal research training in immunology, viral vector-based vaccines, flow cytometry and animal study design. He has coordinated several active clinical trials, worked on NIH grants, and gained FDA approval for treatment therapies for cancer.
