Donald J. Alcendor, Ph.D.
Donald Alcendor serves as CC-SWG Co-Director. He is an Associate Professor of Microbiology and Immunology in the Center for AIDS Health Disparities Research at MMC. Dr. Alcendor leads the annual HIV/AIDS Awareness Summit for Teens and directs the Community Outreach Core for Project SAVED, a CDC-funded HIV capacity-building assistance initiative. He is an advisor for the FDA as a Health Disparities Fellowship mentor (Office of Minority Health), Simian Cytomegalovirus expert, consultant to the Antiviral Drug Advisory Committee, and Research Liaison for the FDA Office of Minority Health MOU with MMC. Along with his community education/health disparities work, Dr. Alcendor has consulted on vaccines for the DHHS, advised the NCI-AIDS Malignancy Program, and is a “Brain-on-a-Chip” investigator with VU and the Cleveland Clinic.
