Allan Byron Peetz, M.D.
Dr. Peetz joins our surgical faculty in the Division of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care after completing a fellowship in Trauma, Acute Care Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and a fellowship in medical ethics at the Center for Bioethics at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA. His clinical areas of interest include trauma surgery, emergency general surgery, and critical care.
Dr. Peetz is board certified in general surgery and surgical critical care by the American Board of Surgery. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, Eastern Society for the Surgery of Trauma, and the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities.
Research
Dr. Peetz’s research interests include bioethics in emergency and resource limited surgical settings. He also has interests in the clinical and ethical applications of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in trauma and critical care patients. His recently published articles include Functional status, age, and long-term survival after trauma. Surgery; Association of Model for End-Stage Liver Disease Score and Mortality in Trauma Patients with Chronic Liver Disease. JAMA Surgery; and Is informed consent for extracorporeal life support even possible? American Medical Association Journal of Ethics.
Education
Dr. Peetz received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN, and his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor, MI. He completed a residency in general surgery at the University of Chicago and a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care & Trauma/Acute Care Surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA. Dr. Peetz also completed a fellowship in medical ethics at the Center for Bioethics at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA.
