Applicant Information
Prerequisites
Before admission to our program, the resident applicant must have documented completion of a general surgery residency program accredited by either the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Application Process
All applicants are required to apply through the SAFAS, to participate in our interview process, as well as to participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). All documents must be received by the program via SAFAS by the SAFAS deadline each year. However, earlier application is encouraged, as we will review applications after completion, and interviews will be offered on a rolling basis. Thus, our available interview slots may fill and limit availability for later applicants.
International Medical Graduates
International medical graduates are required to provide documentation of certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) at the time of application to the program. Residents accepted into the program are required to be authorized to work in the United States. (eg., J1 visa would be insufficient).
Interview Day Details
All fellowship interviews will be conducted virtually. More details regarding this process will be sent to those selected to interview.
An interview is an essential part of our selection process. Upon completion of the SAFAS application, all materials are reviewed carefully, and interview invitations are extended to selected candidates. Interview dates are scheduled on select Mondays during the months of April through July this year. Exact dates will be made known if selected for an interview.
On the night before each interview day, there will be a virtual gathering with current fellows for more information about the program. On the interview date, the welcome, program presentation, and interviews will typically be from ~ noon to 4pm.
