"The American College of Surgeon’s Committee on Trauma understands that few people realize that while only 25 percent of our population lives in rural regions, more than 60 percent of the trauma deaths in America occur in these remote geographic segments of the country. This simple but little-known fact provided impetus for a group of rural trauma surgeons, who face this reality every day, to address the problem by creating the Rural Trauma Team Development course (RTTDC). This educational offering arose organically from the Rural Trauma Subcommittee of the American College of Surgeon’s Committee on Trauma as a result of the clearly identified need to teach rural receiving facilities the fundamental elements of injury resuscitation. Moreover, the course content includes key concepts relative to organization of the trauma receiving area, utilization of available resources and regional system relationships in a way that is straightforward and easy to understand.”
