Adult Operating Room Float Pool, 3rd Floor VUH

Hello and welcome to our department.

I'm Belinda Coakley, MSA, BSN, RN, CNOR, Perioperative Clinical Operations Nurse Manager and Manager of the Adult Hospital Operating Room Float Pool, also known as the OR Float Pool.  Our main office is located on the 3rd floor of Vanderbilt University Hospital.

Our OR Float Pool staff supports fast-paced, flexible, and team-oriented environments. Our focus is providing excellent surgical care to accommodate all our patient populations.

One of the perks of working as an OR Float Pool nurse is the vast diversity of our patients.  Some of our patients have been anticipating their surgery, while for others it is the first time in a hospital setting due to an accident.  We aim to provide safe, high-quality patient care for all our patients.

The Adult Operating Room provides a wide variety of care focused on surgical procedures including GYN, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Urology/Robotics, General Surgery, Vascular, and Plastic.

VUMC OR Float Pool staff must be able to work varied shifts with flexible hours that include nights and weekends. We generally look for at least one year of OR experience but two years is preferred.

Our team consists of RN's, Certified Surgical Technologists (ST's), First Assist RN's and ST's, Clinical Staff Leaders (CSL), and a Board Charge Nurse. The team reports to a Nurse Manager and Clinical Nursing Director.

OR Float Pool staff members are successful because they believe our patients’ safety comes first and being part of a multi-disciplinary collaborative team.

We encourage professional growth.

If your career goal is to expand your skills beyond bedside care, the Main Operating Room OR Float Pool can help by expanding your skill set whether it be leadership, scrubbing, or first assisting in cases.
