Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery, 3rd Floor VUH

Hello and welcome to our unit!

I’m Annette Johnson, MSN, RN, Interim Manager of the Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery service line, also known as CTVOR.  We are located on the 3rd floor of Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital (VUH).

The environment on our unit is friendly, patient-centered, and collaborative with the other members of the interdisciplinary surgical team.

We care for adult patients who are being treated for cardiovascular diseases such as coronary artery disease, heart failure, and peripheral vascular disease, as well as lung diseases.  Our patients are unique because they are high acuity patients, often turned down for surgery at other medical centers.

One of the perks of working on my unit is gaining world-class experience in a vast array of surgical interventions.

Our nurses are successful because they have initiative, critical thinking skills, and care deeply for our patients.

We orient new nurses to our unit by using didactic learning and simulation-based training to enhance the preceptorship experience and provide each nurse a safe space for learning.

We encourage professional growth.

If your career goal is to become a clinical expert in the field of cardiovascular surgery, Cardiothoracic & Vascular surgery can help with this by providing you the opportunity to see and do procedures that most other hospitals do not perform.

If you have any questions about my unit, please email me at annette.b.johnson@vumc.org or visit Work at Vanderbilt University Medical Center to explore open nursing positions.
