What are Inclusive Learning Environments?
These are spaces where all individuals are respected, treated equitably, invited, and welcomed to contribute, ensuring that everyone has the same opportunities to achieve. Establishing inclusive learning environments requires purposeful intention, honoring and affirming differences, creating structure for respectful communication, and removing barriers to full engagement (Doherty, 2021; Dowling, et al., 2021).
About the Creating Inclusive Learning Algorithm Tool
A team of certified VUMC Nursing Education and Professional Development Education Specialists developed the Inclusive Learning Tool. It was designed for educators and facilitators and includes easy-to-follow tips, tools, and recommendations to create Inclusive Learning Environments. The tool is meant to be used each time in curriculum design -- including Contact Hour offerings -- to increase learner engagement.
