Hello and welcome to our unit!
I’m Sarah Harmon, MSN, RN, CCRN, Manager of the Neonatal and Pediatric Transport Program, also known as Angel Transport. We work closely with the NICU, PICU, PCICU, and Pediatric Emergency Department to provide transport services from our referring hospitals to our tertiary care center. We are based out of Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
The environment of our transport program is collaborative and emphasizes teamwork. We focus on strong quality and safety for both our internal and external customers.
We provide specialized neonatal and pediatric transport services for children who require expert medical care at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. Our transport team receives specialized training for assisting with deliveries of neonates, managing respiratory distress, congenital heart disease, and complex pediatric diagnosis. Our patients receive unique care that is delivered in a pediatric-friendly (for both neonates and children) ambulance that has specialized equipment that includes distraction activities such as games and a DVD player.
Our transport teams are successful because they have strong assessment skills, are decisive in making decisions, and are comfortable taking care of a patient in an ambulance with medical direction.
To join our team we encourage registered nurses and respiratory therapists to have both NICU and Pediatric Emergency Department experience. A minimum of 2 years is required and CCRN is highly desirable and required after one year.
We orient new staff to our program by completing an orientation in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Emergency Department, and on transport that takes approximately 18 weeks to complete. Our unit is not part of the Nurse Residency Program.
We encourage professional growth.
If your career goal is to work for a department that is focused on safety and quality that cares for a wide variety of patients in an out-of-hospital setting, Angel Transport can help you reach those goals.
