Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), 4th Floor Monroe Carell

Hello and welcome to our unit!

We're Janna Dedman, MSN, RNC-LRN (left), Stephanie Abbu, DNP, RN, CNML (center), and Nicole R. Williams, MSN, RN, CCRN(right), Managers of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, also known as NICU.  We are located on the 4th floor of Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.

The environment on our unit serves a diverse patient population.  We work as a team to deliver compassionate care that is grounded in evidence-based best practices.

We care for neonates who are being treated for a variety of medical diagnoses.

Our patients are unique from multiple system perspectives and require expert nursing care in the earliest days of life that impact a child in positive ways throughout their lifespan.

One of the perks of working on our unit is we are the largest unit within Vanderbilt University Hospital with 119 beds.  We are a level IV tertiary care NICU that attends to the complex care needs of more than 1400 fragile newborns per year.

Our nurses are successful because they are knowledgeable, focus on teamwork, and dedicated to giving the best care possible.

We orient new nurses to our unit by providing a 12-14 week unit-specific orientation with dedicated preceptors.

We encourage professional growth.

If your career goal is to care for neonates, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit can help with this by exposing you to a wide variety of diagnoses and treatments that are based on best practices.
