Oncology Fellowship

Thank you for your interest in our Oncology Nurse Fellowship Program designed for VUMC Staff Members.

The Oncology Nurse Fellowship Program is for nurses with less than 6-12 months of experience and new to the oncology specialty. We know it can be intimidating to learn a new specialty.  This program is dedicated to providing with the support and resources needed to start your oncology nursing career!

The benefits of this program include:
•  mentorship and peer support among your cohort
•  dedicated education time spread out throughout your first year,
thoughtfully sequenced to prevent information overload and build upon prior
   knowledge and clinical experiences
• increased confidence in caring for this specialty population across the cancer continuum
• increased preparedness for specialty certification in oncology

VUMC staff may apply and interview for available positions in the Oncology setting via Workday. There is no separate application for the Oncology Fellowship Program. Once hired into an Oncolodgy department, candidates are automatically enrolled into the next Oncology Nurse Fellowship Program fellowship cohort.

To help new hires feel comfortable in their new role, educational activities will be provided including:
• cancer basics
• cancer genomics
• hematologic malignancies
• solid tumors
• psych-oncology
• symptom management
• oncologic emergencies
• nutrition and physical activity
• financial toxicity and patient resources
• sexuality and onco-fertility
• palliative and end-of-life care, navigating difficult conversations
• survivorship
• quality and accreditation standards
• setting professional goals

This program provides opportunities for professional advancement including the accrual of less than 20 hours of nursing continuing professional development (NCPD) or contact hours during your first year. Fellows will each develop professional goals and receive mentoring.
