Hello and welcome to our unit!
I'm Amber Monaghan, MSN, RN, CPN, Manager of the Pediatric Cardiology unit, also known as PCARD. We are located on the 10th floor of Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
The environment on our unit is patient-focused, supportive, and challenging.
We care for pediatric patients ranging from birth to 18 years old who are being treated for a variety of congenital and acquired heart conditions.
Our patients are unique because many have life-long healthcare considerations requiring specialized skills and multidisciplinary care.
One of the perks of working on our unit is being part of an amazing interdisciplinary team that coordinates complex care for patients with special cardiac needs.
Our nurses are successful because they are compassionate, dedicated patient advocates, and have keen assessment and critical thinking skills.
We orient new nurses to our unit by providing 5 weeks of clinical orientation with a preceptor, observation opportunities in our cardiac catheterization lab and operating room, and classroom sessions for cardiac-specific education.
We encourage professional growth.
If your career goal is to make a difference in the lives of children and their families, Pediatric Cardiology can help with this by providing a supportive team and opportunities for learning and professional growth.
