Hello and welcome to our unit, the Psychiatric Assessment Service unit, also known as PAS. We are located on the 1st floor of the Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital.
Since we are a dedicated psychiatric emergency room, the environment on our unit is fast-paced and never the same on any given day.
We care for adult patients ranging in age from 18 and over who are being treated for any behavioral health crisis need.
Our unit is unique because we are also responsible for all ages and patients admitted to Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital (VPH) from a multitude of referral sources.
One of the perks of working on my unit is the collaboration between our multi-disciplinary teams.
Our nurses are successful because they have tenacity, strong communication skills, serious empathy skills, and the ability to adapt to the unknown.
We orient new nurses to our unit by setting up shadowing with all of the different roles within PAS, allowing for each person to know what the other is doing for our patients.
We encourage professional growth.
If your career goal is to pave the way for this new behavioral health line of service, fight and beat the stigma of mental health issues for our patients, and make a difference within the community, the Psychiatric Assessment Service unit can help with this.
