Trauma Stepdown, 10 South VUH

mgrHello and welcome to our unit!

I'm Mary Poston, MSN, RN, PMH-BC, Manager of Vanderbilt Trauma Stepdown, also known as 10 South.  We are located on the 10th floor of Vanderbilt University Hospital (VUH).

The environment on our unit is fast-paced, dynamic, and collaborative.

We care for adult patients ranging in age from 16-100 and beyond who are being treated for traumatic injuries involving multiple body systems.

Our patients are unique because they are dealing with an unplanned event that has a potential impact on their way of life. They are learning to cope not only with their current medical issues but also with their emotional and mental health related to such life-altering events.

One of the perks of working on our unit is the incredible teamwork that goes into caring for these patients. Every day is different and there is always something new to learn.

Our nurses are successful because they have compassion, a can-do attitude, and dedication to their patients.

We orient new nurses to our unit by providing an extensive, well-rounded orientation to all new staff.

We encourage professional growth.

If your career goal is to gain invaluable experience with a diverse patient population, the Trauma Stepdown Unit can help with this by providing an opportunity to participate in life-changing care.
