Women’s Services, VWCH 1st Floor

Hello and welcome to my unit!

My name is Jennifer Parker, MSN-Ed, BSN, RN, Director of the Women’s Services unit. Within our unit, we have several areas that serve the community. This is where Labor and Delivery, OB triage, OB OR, antepartum, postpartum and our newborn nursery are located. We are located on the first floor at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital and have our own entrance in the Women's Pavilion that is open for patients and visiting hours from 6am-9pm. Before and after these hours, patients would enter through the emergency room.

The environment on our unit consists of a friendly and compassionate group of multi-disciplinary staff who are teamwork-oriented with a focus on safety and quality.  Our goal is to make each patient’s experience special.  Our focus is to care for women and provide extraordinary care.

Every pregnancy is unique, which is why we provide individualized, family-centered care, making the patient's experience as special as possible.

Our nurses are successful because they have a desire to go above and beyond to customize care for their patients, have the knowledge and skills to perform their jobs, and leadership that supports safe and effective care.

We orient new nurses to our unit by meeting them where they are experience-wise and providing them with the tools they need to be successful.  Orientation time is based on the nurse's experience with training and support needed to provide safe, quality care.  We provide educational opportunities for BLS, ACLS, NRP, STABLE and AWHONN Fetal Monitoring. We also send our nurses to workshops such as Spinning Babies, to enrich our educational tools to support our patients' desire to deliver naturally.

We also have nurses that are trained as lactation counselors, offering breastfeeding education and lactation support. We offer free childbirth classes as well as breastfeeding preparation classes as well, for our community. We have outpatient lactation appointments on campus, please email me for further information.

We encourage professional growth.

If your career goal is to excel while being a caring advocate for patients, VWCH Women’s Services can help with this by providing you with the tools and support you need to grow in your career.  We value education here and we try to help make your schedule as flexible as possible so that you can continue to grow as a professional.

If you have any questions about my unit, please email me at jennifer.a.parker@VUMC.org or visit Work at Vanderbilt University Medical Center to explore open nursing positions.
